Published the SAM 2008 Report
The SAM Platform, Food Security and the Media, has published the SAM 2008 Report.
The document analyzes the 1911 texts on food safety published in 2008 along a sample of seven newspapers: El País (Catalunya edition), La Vanguardia, El Punt (Girona), Segre (Lleida), Diari de Tarragona, 20 Minutos (BCN) and ADN (BCN).
The press spoke of both the guarantee of access to food or food security (with a constant presence throughout 2008 due to its association with the economic crisis), and the issue of health or food safety, a topic that was represented by acute or crisis situations, such as sunflower oil with hydrocarbon, milk with melamine or meat with dioxin.
One in four texts on food safety explicitly talked about risk, one in ten mentioned the term health alert, and one in five included recommendations for the reader, which shows that the press has not only an informative role, but also has a clear impact on the formation of citizens.
