Media for Science Forum 2010
The FECYT, under the Spanish Presidency in the European Union and in collaboration with other institutions, which include the Scientific Communication Observatory, has organized for 12 and 13 May in Madrid the Media for Science Forum (MFSF2010), a meeting whose purpose is the dissemination of scientific culture and innovation through of its strategic delivery, disseminate and transfer. The MFSF2010 is a European congress of science journalism that will address strategic issues on the communication of science and its social dimension.
The MFSF2010 will feature experts and gather the latest research in scientific communication in areas such as social perception and public participation in science. The end of the conference, will collect findings on science journalism and science communication in the knowledge society. The report will include recommendations to improve cooperation among scientists, science journalists and the citizens of Europe.
MFSF2010 Applications are already open. To encourage participation and attendance at the event, the FECYT offers 80 fellowships (50 for Europeans and 30 for Spaniards) to help finance travel and accommodation. The MFSF2010 is also creating a blog whose opening is scheduled for April, in which several experts will begin an online debate on the status of science journalism and science communication in the knowledge society, and which has the participation and opinions of the general public.
The MSF2010 is related to the European Forum of Science Journalism that was held in the Universitat Pompeu Fabra in 2007, funded by the European Commission and in whose organization also colaborated the OCC.
